Valve Regulated Lead Acid Battery FAQ

  1. What kind of lead-acid battery that is valve regulated?

The VRLA battery is the most popular reserve power design because the electrolyte is captive, preventing it from spilling even when the case is punctured.

  2. Why valves are regulated in lead acid batteries?

A VRLA battery is simply a lead-acid battery in which the electrolyte has been immobilised in order to recombine hydrogen and oxygen. It has a sealed construction with pressure release valves to prevent gases from escaping, it is this which gives it its name.

  3. How do you maintain a VRLA battery?

The battery will experience a 50% reduction of life for each 18°F (10°C) above 77°F (25°C). High ambient room temperature should be corrected through the use of appropriate ventilation and air conditioning. The VRLA battery should not be charged at temperatures exceeding 122°F (50°C).
